Destinations

This section is dedicated to innovative, proactive and environmentally responsible businesses that through supportive partnerships and joined up thinking are creating Green Destinations. The partners comprise accommodation providers, activities, bars, restaurants, shops, activities and attractions that have received environmental certification or are members of a GreenTravel recognised responsible business programme. Their commitment to responsible tourism means that you can choose a destination for your trip – be it a weekend visit or a fortnight of fun – in the knowledge that you can sleep, eat, hang out, run around, visit, chill out and shop responsibly.

They are leading the way in boosting Irish tourism and establishing Ireland as the Green Destination for homegrown and international travelers.

Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark

The Burren is a karst-landscape region or alvar in northwest County Clare, in Ireland. It is one of the largest karst landscapes in Europe. The region measures approximately 250 square kilometres and is enclosed roughly within the circle made by the villages Ballyvaughan, Kinvara, Tubber, Corofin, Kilfenora and Lisdoonvarna. It is bounded by the Atlantic and Galway Bay on the west and north, respectively. A small portion of the Burren has been designated as Burren National Park. It is one of only six National Parks in Ireland and the smallest in size.

Dingle Peninsula

Once cited as 'the most beautiful place on earth' by the National Geographic; was voted among the top 100 destinations in the world by Trip Advisor; CNN recently recommended it as a very favourable winter destination; it is listed as one of the top 10 places to be on New Year's Eve - all of these accolades refer to County Kerry's stunningly beautiful Dingle Peninsula.

Carlingford and the Cooley Peninsula

Carlingford is a magical village, full of character and is one of the best preserved medieval villages in Ireland. With its history and narrow Medieval streets, lanes that lead to the harbour, majestic Slieve Foye mountain and the famous mountains of Mourne across the lough all combine to make Carlingford unique in Ireland. Today the inherent natural beauty can equally be appreciated on land or sea.

Sheep's Head Peninsula

Visit The Sheep’s Head Way on Ireland’s Atlantic coastline and you’ll find an unspoilt natural landscape so beautiful it’s been recognised as a European Destination of Excellence: a kind of modern Eden.Take the renowned Sheep’s Head Way walking route, cycle the peninsula or drive the Wild Atlantic Way, and at every turn you’ll find stunning views across West Cork’s three peninsulas, and over Bantry and Dunmanus bays. The Sheep’s Head Way runs from the tip of West Cork’s unspoilt Sheep’s Head peninsula to historic Bantry House and the early Christian settlement at Gougane Barra.

Loop Head Peninsula

Loop Head is a slender finger of land pointing out to sea from the most westerly point of County Clare, on Ireland’s Atlantic coast. Cinched between the ocean on one side and the Shannon Estuary on the other, this tiny peninsula would be an island but for a meagre mile of land connecting it to the rest of Clare. But despite its isolation, its people are far from insular, having spent hundreds of years welcoming strangers by water. In 2010, Loop Head became a European Destination of Excellence in aquatic tourism. It’s also right in the middle of the Wild Atlantic Way, 2,500 kilometres of the finest coastal scenery in Ireland.
