Destinations

This section is dedicated to innovative, proactive and environmentally responsible businesses that through supportive partnerships and joined up thinking are creating Green Destinations. The partners comprise accommodation providers, activities, bars, restaurants, shops, activities and attractions that have received environmental certification or are members of a GreenTravel recognised responsible business programme. Their commitment to responsible tourism means that you can choose a destination for your trip – be it a weekend visit or a fortnight of fun – in the knowledge that you can sleep, eat, hang out, run around, visit, chill out and shop responsibly.

They are leading the way in boosting Irish tourism and establishing Ireland as the Green Destination for homegrown and international travelers.

Clonakilty District

Situated on the coast, the district stretches from Rosscarbery to Courtmacsherry and includes Timoleague, Butlerstown, Barryroe, Lislevane, Ballinascarthy, Ardfield, Rathbarry, Rossmore and Clonakilty Town itself.

The area boasts a treasure of riches when it comes to natural amenities. The Seven Heads and Clonakilty Walks are just two of these. Cyclists, golfers and anglers are also well catered for with bike hire, unique golf courses and lake, river, shore and sea fishing available. Or perhaps you’ll be tempted by surfing, horse riding, dolphin and whale watching, or a trip to the local spa.

Visitors will also enjoy fantastic local food and drink in a huge array or restaurants, markets and pubs, as well as a great collection of galleries and local craft shops.

Arts festivals are regular features in Clonakilty District and you may well come across Irish dancing, singing or a ‘seannchai’ regaling visitors with myths and legends.

Other must see attractions include the West Cork Museum, the Michael Collins Centre and the West Cork Model Railway Village. Further information: www.clonakilty.ie
