What do Sailing, Jazz and VW Campervans have in common? They all have a festival dedicated to their celebration and enjoyment in Ireland! Seafood and Shanties, Performing Arts, Choral Groups or Dance All Nighters – we promote the wide variety of festivals that share the added bonus of operating in a responsible and sustainable manner.

The festivals listed here will adhere to strict but achievable standards around energy use and waste management, where possible feature local and Irish goods and services, and the organisers take simple steps to provide/promote sustainable transport options to the event. From the Rose of Tralee International Festival to the Sligo Festival we're sure you'll find an event to enjoy.

Festival fun is good but Green Festival fun is fantastic!

Ballinahown Green Winter Festival

The Ballinahown Winter Festival is currently working with the Green Hospitality Award Programme to be officially recognised as a Green Festival.  The organising committee are fully committed to environmental sustainability and according to Helen Connelly ‘The committee of Ballinahown Green Winter Festival wishes to make the Festival as environmentally sustainable as possible and to communicate this to all visitors. We have already reduced electricity use by replacing Christmas lights with LEDs. We promote sustainable travel and encourage visitors to travel by coach and car-pooling as much as possible. Craft classes taking place at week-ends demonstrate activities with low environmental impact and sustainable materials such as willow are used as much as possible. Our waste management policy encourages the use of recycled material, all our waste is segregated, we have incorporated a purchasing policy to minimise waste packaging and our aim is to have no waste going to landfill. Our festival uses minimum amounts of water, however we conserve water where possible. All purchasing is local, we source all food locally and fresh locally produced food is available at the Tea Rooms. All our craft classes are delivered by locally based crafts people and sustainability is at the core of their demonstrations.’
